Ingredients
You only need two ingredients!
Instructions
- Brew espresso and let it sit for 5 minutes to come to room temperature. These Starbucks Nespresso pods are my favorite to use in my Nespresso machine!
- Pour protein shake into a glass and pour espresso shot into the protein shake.
- Stir and enjoy!
Variations
You can create variations to suit your taste by using different protein shake flavors. Popular protein shake flavors include chocolate, vanilla, cookies and cream, or cold brew coffee flavor, which can be mixed into either regular or decaf espresso. I usually purchase a variety pack so I can try out several different flavor combinations!
For an extra flavor twist, consider using flavored espresso options such as hazelnut, caramel, or vanilla instead of plain espresso.
If you’re feeling adventurous, you can experiment by blending your protein coffee with ice for a chilled, refreshing drink, similar to a Frappuccino.
FAQs
How much caffeine is in protein coffee?
The amount of caffeine varies by the type of espresso you use. In general, one shot of espresso contains around 64 mg of caffeine.
Can you use protein powder instead of a ready-to-drink protein shake?
Yes, you can use protein powder instead of a ready-to-drink protein shake in protein coffee. Make sure to add a scoop of protein to at least 4 ounces of your liquid of choice, such as almond milk, and mix well using a blender bottle or electric frother.
Is protein coffee best consumed as a meal or a snack?
You can consume protein coffee as a meal replacement, part of a meal, or as a snack – whatever you prefer! I have been enjoying mine in the afternoon with a shot of decaf espresso lately.
Can I add ice to my protein coffee?
Yes, you can add ice to your protein coffee, but it may water it down. I prefer letting the espresso cool off slightly before adding it to the cold protein shake, and not using ice.
Can I add additional espresso shots?
